Emergency Claim Handling

In the event of a loss, do whatever is reasonably necessary to protect your property from further damage while waiting for your insurance carrier/adjuster to contact you regarding the coordination of your repair.  Make sure to keep all bills and if possible, take pictures.

Date and time of accident
Description of accident
Description of damages
List of all passengers in insured vehicle including name, address and phone number
Estimate of damages if available
Driver name of other vehicle
Owner of other vehicle (on registration)
Year make and model of other vehicle
Description of damages
List of all passengers in other vehicle including name, address and phone number
List of all witnesses to accident including name, address and phone number

 Claims Handling Procedures:

 Bodily Injury Incidents

  1. DO NOT ADMIT LIABILITY OR FAULT.
  2. Offer to administer first aid or call an ambulance.
  3. Obtain the person’s name, address and telephone number.
  4. After the person has left the premise, make a note of the following:
    1. What was the cause of the accident?
    2. What did the person indicate caused the incident?
    3. Did you notice any contributing factors?
    4. Name and address of all witnesses including employees.

 Property Damage Incidents

  1. DO NOT ADMIT LIABILITY OR FAULT.
  2. Obtain the owner’s name, address and telephone number.
  3. Obtain a description of the property.
  4. Note how the incident occurred.
  5. Obtain the name and address of all witnesses including employees.

 Common Types of Losses:

 General Liability Loss – Claims involving bodily injury or property damage to the general public while on your premise or arising out of your company’s operations.  This does NOT include automobile losses.

 Property Loss – Claims include damage or theft to property owned by your company including your Crime Coverage.  This does NOT apply to damage to others’ property caused by your negligence.

 Automobile Loss – Accidents arising out of the use of a company owned vehicle which results in the damage of the insured vehicle, or property damage or bodily injury to others. All accidents should be reported no matter how minor.

 Workers’ Compensation – Injuries to an employee resulting within the course and scope of his/her job.  This includes injuries sustained while in a vehicle used for business purposes.
